If only for a minute, last night’s Olympic Closing Ceremony brought us back to the days of chunky platform trainers and a compulsive need to throw up the peace sign.
As a swarm of taxis raced on to the Union Jack stage, the reunited Spice Girls took the post-games party to another level with a performance that rekindled nostalgia in everyone, from Kate Middleton to Team USA. The former Top Of The Pops princesses returned to the stage once again to rock a medley of their megahits “Spice Up Your Life” and “Wannabe”- the tune that shot the best-selling British pop group to stardom in 1996.
Performing with all the girl power we’ve come to love, all of the Spices, Melanie Brown, Mel Chisolm, Victoria Beckham, Emma Burton and Geri Halliwell took to Twitter to share their excitement for the performance and the overwhelming love shown by their fans. Their fun didn’t stop there; the group was seen taking the party to the streets of London, where they enjoyed each other’s company into the early morning hours.
Though it’s reported that last night’s show would be the last time the Spice Girls will perform together live, we can’t help but wish the five gals would get together to make a few more hit singles. Although the now disbanded group hasn’t confirmed reports of any new music, we’re not so secretly crossing our fingers for more of the Spice World stars.
